Dwayne Jarrett Can't Break 4.6 in the 40-Yard Dash
USC receiver Dwayne Jarrett turned in a sub-par performance at the Trojans' pro day on Wednesday, likely meaning the 6-foot-4 prospect will not be a first-round pick in next month's draft.
Running on FieldTurf at the Trojans' practice facility, Dwayne Jarrett ran 40 times of 4.67 seconds and 4.62 seconds. That's very slow for an NFL receiver; when you've got tight ends like Greg Olsen running the 40 in 4.45, it's easy to see why Dwayne Jarrett is considered too slow.
USC coach Pete Carroll did his best to convince NFL personnel people that Dwayne Jarrett is worthy. According to NFL.com, Carroll "showed video of wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett's catches -- the ones he made in practices, not games." I'm sure the assembled scouts are impressed with Dwayne Jarrett's hands, but that's not what they came to see. The question surrounding Dwayne Jarrett has always been whether he can run, not whether he can catch. He still has some proving to do, and he's running out of time.
